Sarah Axume, Psy.D. |
Welcome to my practice. I decided to become a psychotherapist because I wanted to work closely in an ongoing way with people to help them reach the goals they set for themselves and improve their lives. Before I went back to school and earned my doctorate in clinical psychology, I worked as both a school and educational psychologist.
My approach is centered around identifying and building upon your individual strengths and giving you additional tools to improve yourself. If there are barriers to self-improvement, we will work on overcoming them together and creating ways to build resiliency. We will work together in a non-judgmental, confidential way, which allows you to be open in ways you might not be elsewhere. Everyone is unique and requires a personalized approach to get the help that they seek. I use a combination of methods to achieve this, depending on your needs, including cognitive behavioral methods, emotion-focused therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, and mindfulness-based therapy. I have experience working with individuals from diverse ages, backgrounds, communities, cultures, and religions. I work with people who have experienced relationship challenges, trauma, shame, poor self-esteem, depression, anxiety, family conflict, underperformance issues, academic/educational difficulties, grief, and parenting difficulties. I am a graduate of Ryokan College where I earned my doctorate in Clinical Psychology. I have also earned an undergraduate degree in Psychology from California State University, Los Angeles, and a graduate degree in Counseling from California State University, Northridge. I previously served for nine years as a school psychologist and have worked as a Licensed Educational Psychologist for many years across southern California. In addition to experience with counseling, I have experience with the administration of psychological tests and assessments.
